The Perfect Island Honeymoon

Ahh, Rarotonga -- this was, for us, the perfect island honeymoon destination. The island is only about five miles across, and is ringed entirely by a coral reef that creates a beautiful lagoon that encircles the island.

We stayed at the Rarotongan Beach Resort for our honeymoon. After a 12 hour flight from Los Angeles, we stepped off the plane in February to be greeted by the tropical heat, and by locals waiting to place leis around our necks. I'll admit that the heat took some getting used to, coming, as we did, from Spokane, Washington in February, but we adjusted after the first night.

Cook Island Honeymoon Activities

On our island honeymoon there was much to do. We hiked across the island, scaling tree roots and muddy paths, to emerge at the other side with a sense of accomplishment. We rented scooters and cruised around the island -- though we had to adjust to driving on the "wrong" side of the road.

We also spent much of our perfect island honeymoon snorkeling in the lagoon, looking at brilliantly colored fish. At the resort there was night entertainment with a Polynesian dance troupe being the highlight.

We went shopping in Avarua, the capital of the island group, trading in triangular coins, and buying mementos to remind us of our perfect island honeymoon. We also spent many nights taking in beautiful sunsets, and thoroughly enjoying ourselves.
